Many commencement ceremonies have been cancelled or modified this year because of unprecedented circumstances. However, we should still take the time to acknowledge this year’s graduates. Here are images in New Jersey’s newspapers related to past graduations:
This advertisement lists last minute accessories, from items such as white gloves and hosiery to fans and handkerchiefs. It also advertises graduation gifts, such as handbags and combs. This image is featured in the June 14, 1911 Perth Amboy Evening News.
And let’s not forget about the nurses who are graduating after putting in the time and effort to become experts in their field. This article, featured in the April 25, 1910 Newark Star and Newark Advertiser, describes 17 women who graduated from a training school for nurses.

Although it is unfortunate that today’s graduates are unable to celebrate their accomplishments through traditional ceremonies and parties, they should still feel proud for completing these milestones.
